Polyphemos is a Kyklopes, a huge, one-eyed, humanoid creature, who knows "none but savage ways (150)". Though other Kyklopes live on the same island as he, Polyphemos lives without companions in a cave on the shore. He spends much of his time tending his flocks of sheep, bringing them far afield on the island to graze, and surviving in part off their milk and meat. Polyphemos plays a central role in one of the most well-known tales about Odysseus. (MS)
