Iros is "a public tramp who begged around the town of Ithaka, a by-word for his insatiable swag-belly, feeding and drinking, dawn to dark"(335). Iros challenges Odysseus (while odysseus is a beggar) to a fight. Antinoos overhears his challenge and makes the fight official. The suitors crowd around to watch them fight, and Odysseus breaks Iros's jaw in one punch.
